Blog 2: What Dr. Ben and Ashra Kwesi Taught Us About the Black Man of the Nile

“Ancient Egypt is to Africa what Greece is to Europe. It is the root of civilization.” – Dr. Yosef Ben-Jochannan

The Nile Is Africa’s Timeline

You cannot understand Africa without understanding the Nile.

  • Dr. Ben, through Black Man of the Nile, proved that Egypt (Kemet) was a Black civilization, the first to master science, spirituality, agriculture, and writing.
  • His student, Ashra Kwesi, continues the work, walking people through temples and tombs to show that African history predates Greek philosophy and Roman law.

We are not students of the West—the West is a student of us.

Why It Matters

Without knowing we come from greatness, we settle for survival.
The erasure of Kemet wasn’t accidental—it was war on memory.

Our story does not begin with chains.
It begins with:

  • Charts (mathematics and astronomy)
  • Medicine (herbal and surgical knowledge)
  • Pyramids (architectural genius)
  • Ma’at (principles of truth, justice, and order)

The Call to Remember

Before slavery, we built nations. Before colonization, we wrote the books others still study today.

To move forward, we must go back and reclaim the Nile as our foundation.
